Richard has been one of Designscape’s account managers since August of 2003 and specializes in landscape overhauls. He has the special ability to come onto a job on day one and provide immediate results. Richard has his BA in Business and has studied undergrad in Horticulture and Agriculture. Richard works in turf management, pruning, planting and transplanting.

Richard is an Indiana Accredited Horticulturalist (INLA), and a registered technician for pesticides. Before coming to Designscape he worked for nearly 20 years as the department supervisor and groundskeeper for a liberal arts college. “It gets easier the longer you stay with it,” he said.

His job on the maintenance crew is to assist his supervisor in getting the work accomplished to the higher standard, whatever that work might be. When it comes to working at DHS, Richard outlined three things he enjoys the most:
1. Team work — being apart of a team that “clicks” is “very satisfying.”
2. Client approval — working for clients that look forward to his arrival is very nice, he said.
3. A job well done — “Standing back and looking at the work I did and being able to say, ‘Now that looks good!’ is quite fulfilling,” he said.

“I like my work,” he said. “It requires effort, concentration, aesthetics, problem solving, skill, improvising, planning, team work cooperation, public relations, strategy and patience, but I also think it’s fun. Fun isn’t’ just easy stuff. It’s like art for me. I get paid to do art — how fun is that?”

Richard is a member of New Life Community Church and even helps with the landscaping there. Along with his love for gardening he enjoys reading, photography, baking bread, vegetable gardening, movies, acting, and writing. He is a member of the Figtree Fellowship Players, doing old radio style audio plays (some with original scripts).
